The Grumelli are an ancient family from Bergamo, whose name derives from the toponym Grumello al Piano. Several members of the lineage held important ecclesiastical, civil and military offices. Tano Grumelli, Girolamo and Marco Antonio Fermo became members of the Council of Bergamo in 1433, 1576 and 1799 respectively. They are registered under the title of Lombard nobles and Counts Palatine in the nobility lists of 1815–1828 and 1895.
