Luigi Tadini, who was born in Verona in 1754 and died in Lovere in 1829, acquired the comital title following his marriage to Libera Moronati, countess of Salizzole (a village in the Verona area), from whom came in 1774 his only son and heir of the family, Faustino Gherardo. Having inherited Palazzo Barboglio in Lovere, it became a holiday resort for the family but also a place of tragedy, due to the untimely death of their son during the extension works. Passionate about art in all its forms, Luigi Tadini stockpiled works and contacts during the Grand Tour in Italy.
